Strengthening the Resilience of Women who are Victims of Violence
by icodeh haiti
- Haiti
This initiative in Haiti tackles gender-based violence through a multifaceted approach that combines prevention efforts, support services for victims, and emergency response to gang violence.
Breaking the Silence: A Multifaceted Approach to Empowering Haitian Women
Gender-based violence, a global pandemic hindering progress, has long been silenced in Haiti. Through a multifaceted approach, this initiative aims to shatter that silence and empower women in Delmas, Pétion-Ville, and Cité Soleil.
Prevention at the Core
Beyond immediate needs, the project addresses the root causes of violence. Educational campaigns and workshops promote positive masculinity among men and boys, fostering a societal shift that prevents violence before it starts.
Empowering Women, Strengthening the System
The initiative supports existing local efforts:
Safe Spaces: Welcoming environments for survivors to seek help, access counselling, and begin healing.
Economic Integration: Equipping women with skills and resources for financial independence, reducing vulnerability.
Public Service Capacity Building: Enhancing institutions’ ability to offer effective responses and support services.
Local Civil Society Strengthening: Equipping local organisations with the knowledge and tools to support women and girls.
Addressing Gang Violence
Recognising the surge in gang violence against women, the initiative includes an emergency response project for affected women in the greater Port-au-Prince area.
A Call to Collaboration
This health, women’s rights, and gender equality organisation acknowledges the devastating impact of gang violence, including increased sexual violence. They emphasise the need for essential health services like family planning, emergency obstetric care, and mental health support for vulnerable populations.
Join Us in Building a Brighter Future
The initiative seeks your support in providing essential medical supplies, emergency kits, food assistance, and other resources to displaced populations and those affected by gang violence. They also welcome broader collaboration to strengthen community resilience, prevent violence, and promote peace in the affected regions. Together, let’s build a future free from violence for Haiti’s women and communities.
Key objective
The capacities of civil society actors to receive and support victims of gender-based violence can be strengthened through:
- Effectively informing women, stakeholders, and communities about gender-based violence and women, with full knowledge of their rights, and their ability to ask for support.
- Increasing the victims’ capacity for resilience thanks to legal, medical, and psychological services set up in working-class neighborhoods.
- Improving the living conditions of women victims of violence.
