About

The Katurama Indigenous community is made up of family groups from the Pataxó and Pataxó Hã-hã-hãe ethnicities, in the former Mata do Japonês, located in the municipality of São Joaquim de Bicas (MG). These are groups of indigenous people affected by the collapse of the Vale Dam in 2019 and that have wider family trees – that is, their extended and parental families – in villages distributed in the south and extreme south of Bahia.

The Pataxó and Pataxo Hã-hã-hãe, two groups of indigenous peoples in Brazil, were hit by Vale's crime in Brumadinho, in 2019. After four years, we are fighting for reparation and we want to tell our own story.
